A former president of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies and chief editor of the Journal of Communist Studies and Transition Politics, his recent books include Russia After Communism (coedited, Cass, 2002), Postcommunist Belarus(coedited, Rowman and Littlefield, 2005) and Developments in Russian Politics 6 (Palgrave and Duke, 2005).
